What is Therapy?

Therapy, sometimes called “psychotherapy” or “counseling”, is a way of treating mental health problems through conversation and behavior change. By talking through your problems, learning new skills, tweaking thinking patterns, and altering unhelpful behaviors, positive changes to emotional well-being can take place.

Therapy can be done in a variety of settings such as one-on-one, with family members/loved ones, or in groups with peers.

For many mental health problems, therapy can be an extremely effective way of finding lasting relief.

There is no mind-reading, tricks, or traps in the therapeutic process – just honest conversation and self-reflection.

If you’ve ever felt helped after talking with a loved one or trusted supporter, you already have a great idea of what being in therapy is like. The advantage you get when hiring a professional comes from that professional’s training, experience, and knowledge about how to best help.

Professional therapists hone in to the root of the problem, help you make up your mind about how you want to address it, offer great advice on how to fix it, and walk with you while you put changes in place.

We at Dovetail Counseling Group realize that no two people are the same, and so we tailor therapy to meet the specific needs of our individual clients. We can help you recognize underlying problems and fully realize your strengths so you can live a healthier life
